This past weekend Paul and the Wolff racing team headed to Attica, Indiana for the second round of Ultra4 USA racing in 2024. Paul was registered to race in 4 separate classes over the course of two days. The 4900 UTV open and Pro modified classes, 4500 limited class, and the 4400 unlimited class. Paul would be the only registered competitor onsite to compete in more than two classes. Friday was qualifying day for all classes, and race day for the UTV open and 4500 limited class. Paul qualified for the UTV Open class in pole position. Followed by a 2nd place qualifying run in the UTV Pro modified class. In the 4500 limited class Paul would qualify first in class, and first overall for ALL limited classes which includes the 4600, and 4800 classes. Out qualifying all 4800 cars in a 4500 car is a feat that has never been achieved in Ultra 4 racing history. Moving into the 4400 unlimited class Paul would put down a pole position run once again earning him 3 1st place qualifying runs out of 4 classes.
On to the races. First race of the weekend was the 4900 UTV open class. Paul was on pace to take home the win but lost front wheel drive halfway thru the 3rd lap. Putting him in only 2wd for the remainder of the race on a very challenging course. losing considerable time on difficult obstacles Paul was still able to put down the fastest lap of the day in this class and bring home 2nd place. Following the UTV race Paul hoped in the 4500 limited truck co piloted by Dustin “Battle axe” Jones. Once again Paul would face issues on course to put him at a disadvantage to the rest of the field. Electrical issues became troublesome early on in the race costing him valuable time and the lead. With 2 laps to go Paul lost a drivers front shock making it even more difficult to drive at full race pace. But again managed to put down the fastest lap of the day and drive to a 2nd place finish in class.
Moving into Saturday Paul spent the morning participating in the events hosted by the badlands off-road park and spending time with fans and patrons of the park. Competing in UTV drag races with fellow Can – AM ambassadors, and giving a ride along on the ultra 4 course to one lucky fan.
In the evening Paul left the line for the UTV Pro modified race on the front row. Battling overheating issues early on due to an abundance of mud on the race course. Paul had to mitigate high engine temps to save his race, allowing competitors to pass. After a brief stop in the pit to fix his overheating issues. Paul was able to push harder the final two laps, passing nearly all cars that had past him and into a podium finish. Bringing home a 3rd place finish overall and once again setting the fastest lap of the day in class. The last race of the weekend was the 4400 unlimited race. Leaving the line on the front row once more. Pauls first lap would set the fastest lap of the day in the 4400 race a time that would hold the entire race. After losing a serpentine belt midway thru the second lap it put Paul down from the leader over 15 minutes and physically in last place before he was able to rejoin race course. Knowing he was out of contention for first place Paul still pushed as hard as he could until the very end. Passing nearly the entire field of competitors and putting himself into a 4th place finish overall.
Paul brought home 3 podium finishes in 4 races, and set the fastest lap in all but one class. Qualifying 1st in 3 out of 4 classes. It was proven onsite that Paul was the man to beat and had the fastest cars.
