This past weekend (10/19) the Wolff racing team traveled to Davis, OK for the 2024 Ultra4 USA nationals. Paul was registered to compete in three classes of racing. the UTV Open, and Pro modified classes and the 4400 unlimited class. Coming into the weekend Paul was in the running to take home both UTV Open and Pro modified championships in the East series.
Friday kicked off racing for the weekend starting with qualifying for all classes. Paul once again Put the #1018 Canam in the #1 qualifier position in the UTV open class and 2nd in the Pro modified class. Taking a full season sweep in the Open class as the #1 qualifier at every event this year. Next up was 4400 and Paul did not disappoint. Qualifying in the #1 spot with a 4 second spread over the second fastest in class.
later that afternoon would mark the start of the UTV Open class race. Leaving the line in physical first position Paul would hold down the lead the entirety of the race throughout the brutal 30 mile race course. This race was comprised of high speed desert like sections, tight woods trails, and some of t he biggest rock obstacles drivers faced all year. By the time the checkered flag came out Paul had amassed a 20 minute lead over second place and brought home his first win of the weekend. Being the only driver to finish the race in under 3 hours. Immediately following the Open race Paul lined back up in the exact same car to race the Pro modified class. Leaving the starting line in physical 2nd place. It wasn’t long before Paul would catch and pass first place to take over the lead just over halfway through his first lap. after another 3 grueling laps on this course Paul would once again finish physical y first over the entire field and with a 25 minute lead over the second place finisher. Another thing to note is Pauls overall combined time in the Open race was 2:48:44 and his overall combined time in the pro modified race was 2:49:43. A one minute difference in time between the two 3 hour races. Now that is consistency!
The following day was the 4400 race. Paul once again took off the line in physical first position and didn’t look back the whole race. Generating a significant lead as each lap passed. In the 4400 class the competitors would race a total of 4 laps instead of 3. As Paul started his 4th and final lap he would have a 15 mile lead over second position and nearly 20 minutes on time. Paul had the race won by many miles at this point. But as his race neared its end just 5 miles before the finish. Paul lost all power steering and would have to bow out of the race and give up his massive lead. He fought as hard as he could to push on. But with 40″ tires and no power steering. It posed a danger to himself and the 4400 car as only the hardest and most dangerous sections of race course remained in front of him.
Overall the Wolff racing team is very happy with our results from the 2024 Ulra4 USA warn racing nationals. Paul showed everyone he was the fastest man on race course and had the fastest cars on both days of racing. Unfortunately a mechanical issue would be the decision maker that took the hat trick away from him. Had a part not failed we know Paul would have came home with 3 wins this weekend.
After all the racing dust settled Paul brought home the Ultra4 USA East series championships in both UTV Pro modified and the Open classes. In the 4400 class Paul finished 2nd in the East coast championship.
Also earning his 60th career win in Off-road racing.
